6 of the Best Coffee Shops in Los Angeles
If you’re anything like me, the first thing you want to know when you land in a new city is, “Where can I get a really good cup of coffee?” Well, you’ve come to the right place to find the best coffee shops in Los Angeles.
This is a city that takes its coffee seriously. It’s diverse, trendy, and innovative, with roots in the third-wave coffee movement that shaped how we think about espresso and craft brewing today.
Because LA is so spread out, each neighborhood carries its own coffee identity.
Venice Beach feels different than Koreatown, and Beverly Hills has an entirely different vibe than Anaheim or downtown. That means you can experience a sleek, world-renowned café one minute and a mom-and-pop shop brimming with local charm the next. And honestly, both can be equally good.
I’ve been making my way through the city one latte at a time, and while there are still plenty of shops on my “must try” list, I’ve already found some favorites worth sharing.
From coastal staples to hidden gems tucked into city corners, these are the spots I’ve loved so far. My hope is to save you from wandering aimlessly—or worse, ending up with a forgettable cup—and instead point you toward the kind of coffee experiences that make your trip even better.
This is a growing list, and I’ll keep adding to it as I sip my way across Los Angeles. But for now, here are the coffee shops that stood out to me.
Venice Beach Area
Alfred Coffee Shop
Alfred Coffee was the second shop I visited during my time in Venice in the summer of 2024, and it left quite the impression. I went for their signature vanilla latte, and it was spot on, the sweetness balanced beautifully with just enough bitterness to let the coffee beans shine through. You could actually taste the quality of the coffee, which isn’t always the case with flavored drinks.
Breanna, my mom, and I also split a burrito, which turned out to be the perfect pairing for a laid-back morning. The vibe of Alfred is exactly what you’d hope for in Venice Beach: open, cheerful, and colorful. And of course, the iconic “But First, Coffee” sign is practically begging for a photo op.
If you’re looking for a coffee shop that’s as much about the atmosphere as it is about the drinks, Alfred is a solid choice. It’s also in a great location, right around the corner from the Venice Boardwalk and the beach, which makes it easy to grab your latte and head out for a stroll.

Intelligentsia Coffee
Intelligentsia is one of those names that helped shape LA’s third-wave coffee movement, and the Venice Beach location doesn’t disappoint. When we visited, we tried several drinks, but the standout was the Avena Latte. It’s made with their signature Black Cat espresso, oat milk, turbinado sugar, and layered flavors of ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, and orange peel. The best part? They finish it off with an optional sprinkling of cayenne. As someone who loves a little kick, that fiery edge combined the creaminess of the latte was absolute perfection.
One thing to know before you go: the shop is a little tucked away. You’ll need to walk back from the street to get to the entrance, so keep an eye out for the sign overhead—it’s easy to miss if you’re just strolling by.
The vibe here is more understated than some other Venice shops, modern and minimal, but that works in its favor. It feels like a spot made for slowing down and appreciating the craft of the coffee itself.
If you’re a coffee enthusiast who likes creative drinks that still respect the quality of the beans, Intelligentsia should definitely be on your list.

Blue Bottle
Blue Bottle is one of those names you’ll see in a handful of major cities, Los Angeles, New York, even Tokyo, but it still manages to feel special when you step inside.
The Venice Beach location is easy to spot thanks to its modern design and signature blue light glowing in the background. The building itself is small, but the open doors (at least on both of my visits) make it feel airy and inviting.
One of the coolest things about Blue Bottle is their commitment to freshness. The beans are roasted within 48 hours of when they’re served, so you’re getting coffee at its peak flavor. On my visit, I tried one of their seasonal drinks, but the standout classic is their New Orleans Iced Coffee. It’s brewed with chicory, which gives it a smooth, slightly nutty flavor that people can’t get enough of.
Because Blue Bottle has locations in select cities, it’s not something you’ll find everywhere. That’s part of the charm—getting to enjoy it in LA makes it feel like a moment of connection. If you want a cup that’s equal parts consistent, high-quality, and thoughtfully made, Blue Bottle should definitely make your Venice Beach coffee crawl.

Koreatown
Alchemist Coffee Project
If you’re looking for a coffee shop with a little edge, Alchemist Coffee Project in Koreatown is one of those places that feels instantly cool. The vibe is dark and a little funky, exactly the kind of spot where you’d want to hunker down with your laptop and spend an afternoon writing or studying.
On my visit, I ordered the avocado toast, and it was worth every bit of the nine dollars. Served on hearty sourdough, topped with microgreens, and big enough to cover two slices of bread, it could have easily been two meals. It felt fresh, filling, and just elevated enough to feel special.
For my drink, I went with a seasonal latte that had cayenne in it (are you even surprised), which was right up my alley since I love a touch of spice. Next time, though, I’ve already decided I’m trying their Crème Brûlée Latte, I spotted it on the menu, and it looked incredible.
Alchemist strikes the balance between being a place you can savor a thoughtful drink and a café where you can actually spend time.
Beverly Hills
Series A Coffee
Series A Coffee in Beverly Hills brings a unique twist to the city’s coffee scene, with a menu that leans into creative flavors and subtle Asian-inspired touches. It feels a little more polished, which fits the neighborhood, but the drinks have enough personality to make it stand out.
On our visit, Nevaeh ordered the Black Sesame Latte, and it was fantastic—nutty, rich, and just different enough to make it memorable. We also tried the Oreo Cloud Drink, which lived up to its name with layers of sweetness and texture that made it both fun and indulgent.

The overall vibe is modern and sleek, the kind of place that feels equally suited for a casual coffee break or a spot to meet up with a friend. Next time, I’d love to dive deeper into some of their other inventive lattes. They seem to specialize in creating drinks that surprise you in the best way.
If you’re in Beverly Hills and want a coffee experience that goes beyond the basics, Series A is definitely worth checking out.
Anaheim
Blk Dot Coffee
Okay. Okay. Okay.
This one is my favorite coffee shop on the list. It has a special story. When Nevaeh and I were in California in 2022 I only had enough money for us to get breakfast and lunch since it was the day we were going home. So I put the money on a gift card and when we walked by Blk dot, we had to continue walking. Both of us were so sad!
Therefore, when we were on our trip two years later I woke her up early and we went just the two of us. It was such a special moment and one that will probably mark Blk Dot as my favorite coffee shop in all of Los Angeles.

The drinks and baristas didn’t disappoint either. We ordered a couple of the Iced LVTM (Light Vietnamese Coffee) and, of course, I had to have a hot one. For food we got a Brekkie Bowl, which was deliciously filling way to start our day of adventuring! It comes with b.acon, farm egg frittata, breakfast potatoes, cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, chipotle mayo, sour cream, lemon pepper seasoning.
Just going through the pictures I can’t wait to go back. It will be my must-stop for sure!
